Writing is a self-empowering way of maintaining wellbeing, providing an outlet for emotions and thoughts, whilst developing your writing skills and adding to your self-help toolkit. Creative writing and journalling activities can help regulate stress, encourage relaxation, provide clarity and a sense of control, or offer creative exploration.
These Wellbeing Writing workshops are facilitated by counsellor Lisa Berry, who also has an Honours Degree in English Studies & Creative Writing. Before qualifying as a counsellor nearly ten years ago, Lisa previously worked in a small bookshop where she facilitated creative writing groups, poetry events and book groups. Lisa is an advocate for the positive impact of creativity, art and music on wellbeing, and is a keen writer of fiction, poetry, and self-help resources.
These informal, collaborative sessions are a safe space to work on your wellbeing in a supportive, creative way. Focusing on creative writing and journalling activities, helping you develop your own piece of work throughout the workshop series.
This series of workshops take place weekly over 8 weeks, either weekly or fortnightly, usually held on Wednesday or Thursday evenings from Lisa’s comfortable therapy room in central Bury, Greater Manchester.
By the end of the series of workshops, developed skills will include:
- Exploration of different writing methods to support wellbeing, reflection and goal-setting.
- How mindfulness and creative writing can improve wellbeing.
- Journalling skills
- Completion of your own piece of creative writing work (poem, short play or short story).
- Awareness of how creative writing can be used as a coping mechanism when dealing with stress, worry, anxiety or low mood.
- Collaboration skills.
